What Is Snap-Lock Metal Roofing?

Snap-lock metal roofing is a standing seam metal roofing system with hidden fasteners. Each section of a snap-lock metal roof features vertical legs on the sides of a broad, flat panel. These legs are joined together through a pre-manufactured snapping mechanism, which allows for efficient and streamlined installation.

Benefits Of Snap-Lock 150

Snap-lock metal roofing features many of the same benefits of standing seam roofing, with the added benefit of being more affordable and easier to install. Our Snap-Lock 150 system can last for 50 years or longer—and they’re affordable. Here’s why:

Concealed Fastener System

Don’t want your neighbours to be looking at nuts and bolts when they catch a glimpse of your roof? Concealed fasteners are the solution, and they’re great for more than just curb appeal. Unlike exposed fastener systems, concealed fasteners aren’t exposed to the elements, so moisture, wind, and debris will wear out your fasteners less quickly. In short, concealed fasteners look better and last longer!

Easy to Install

Each Snap-Lock 150 panel is pre-manufactured to connect perfectly with adjacent panels. This makes installation a breeze, without sacrificing quality.

Excellent Expansion and Contraction Ability

Using expansion clips, our standing seam panels can expand and contract as the weather changes without creating internal stress in the roof. This is essential in Manitoba, where our hot summers and cold winters can lead to dramatic expansion and contraction.

High-Quality Metal

All of our standing seam metal roofing panels are built right here in Manitoba using North American Galvalume steel. Galvalume provides incredible corrosion resistance, and our panels are available in 26 and 24-gauge; they stand up to harsh weather, strong winds, debris, and just about anything else you can throw at them

Beyond their incredible lifespan and durability, our Snap-Lock 150 roofing panels are fully customizable. We offer a variety of different colours for our Snap-Lock panels; one of the many perks of manufacturing everything in-house.

Installation Process

The installation process for snap-lock metal roofing is similar to standing seam metal roofing, with one exception: the interlocking panels are snapped together with a pre-manufactured locking system instead of being mechanically crimped together. Here’s a basic installation guide:

  • Install the underlayment
  • Install a drip edge
  • Lay a starter strip to lock in the first panel
  • Place the first panel square with the starter strip
  • Fasten the panel
  • Snap the next panel into the first
  • Fasten the second panel
  • Repeat!

Frequently Asked Questions About Snap-Lock Metal Roofing

How long does snap-lock metal roofing last in Winnipeg's climate?

Arrow

Like other standing seam metal roof systems, the Snap-Lock 150 roofing system can last for 50 years or more in Winnipeg.

How does snap-lock metal roofing compare to other roofing systems?

Arrow

The Snap-Lock 150 system compares incredibly well to other roofing systems. Metal roofing lasts far longer than asphalt roofing and is more environmentally friendly. Snap-lock metal roofing is more affordable than mechanically crimped metal roofing; for some applications, the greater durability of mechanically crimped roofs is preferable, but for most residential and some commercial customers, the durability and longevity of a snap-lock system is all you need.

What maintenance does snap-lock metal roofing require?

Arrow

Maintenance on a snap-lock metal roof is simple and straightforward. You should:

  • Complete an annual visual inspection to look for loose fasteners and clips, corrosion, and other problems
    • Tighten fasteners, reapply sealant, and paint scratches if necessary
  • Remove any debris from the roof when needed
  • Clean gutters regularly

When you are performing maintenance, be sure not to step on the seams; only walk on the flat area of the roof.
